PARTY LIKE IT’S 1773!

On Friday, October 30th students in Mr. Stiffler’s Georgia Studies classes joined together in protest of the many acts passed by the British Parliament against the colonies. They created banners and held a rally, voicing their grievances before finding a suitable target to take their frustrations out on.

The students located a large cache of tea and seized upon it, tearing open the boxes and flinging it into the water. In all, a total of 100 teabags were ruined in this way. The British have vowed to find those responsible and have blocked the harbor preventing further trade until the colonies have paid for the wasted tea.

8th grade students are learning about the causes of the Revolutionary War, including the many acts passed by British Parliament that led to the colonists to rise up against their colonial masters. These include the Navigation Acts, Sugar Act, Currency Act of 1764, Stamp Act, Quartering Acts, Townshend Acts, Tea Act, and Intolerable Acts.

In order to make their signs and protest, students had to research these acts to understand how they affected the colonists and why they contributed to the rising anger in the colonies.
