Important Announcement for Fulton Science Academy Private School Parents:
The road will close between North Point Parkway and Westside Parkway for nearly a full year, the city of Alpharetta said.
“Because the bridge over Georgia 400 has to be removed, we have to completely close Encore Parkway from Westside Parkway to North Point Center East,” said Alpharetta Public Works Director Pete Sewczwicz. “Motorists will still be able to use the section of Encore between North Point Parkway and the traffic signal at North Point Center East.”
According to Alpharetta officials, the current bridge over GA-400 is too narrow to meet current and future needs.
The $14.3 million construction project will result in wider vehicular travel lanes, bike lanes, sidewalks and landscaped medians along the roadway, including on the bridge.
The project is a joint effort between the city and the North Fulton Community Improvement District, with significant financial support from the Georgia Department of Transportation, the Atlanta Regional Commission’s Livable Centers Initiative, the State Road and Tollway Authority and Fulton County.
Local transportation experts anticipate that the closure of Encore Parkway will place heavier demands on North Point Parkway and Haynes Bridge Road until the roadway reopens.
While they plan to adjust the timing of traffic signals in an effort to accommodate the added traffic volume, city officials are warning motorists to expect delays and slower commutes in the area around North Point Mall while the road closure is in place.
