HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS VISIT "BODIES -THE EXHIBITION" IN ATLANTA
Our high school students headed to Atlantic Station on Friday morning with a group of excited science teachers to visit the much talked about Bodies exhibit. If a photo is worth a thousand words than this image says a lot! :)

FULTON SCIENCE ACADEMY DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS

FSA students had a lot of fun on Sunday October 30th, at the Atlanta Historic Center during the celebration of “Día de los Muertos.” They learned about and experienced a Day of the Dead festival, enjoyed traditional dances, crafts, and authentic Mexican food.

Let’s remember this celebration was proclaimed in 2003 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and brings a beautiful meaning to honoring our beloved departed ones.

Fulton Science Academy Zoo Atlanta Field Trip

The fourth and fifth grade classes had a wildly good time during their Atlanta Zoo field trip on Friday, October 28. Students participated in Classification Quiz Game Show seminar, during which they learned all about different types of animals and how they are classified. The students split up and competed against one another in groups, with the final result being a tie! During this time, they also met two special guests up close and personal: a skink that carries eggs during development and then gives birth to live young and a tortoise that the students all got to touch.

After the quiz show, students had a picnic-style lunch and took a train ride around the zoo's CandyLand setup. Finally, students separated into small groups and toured the zoo to visit all of the different animals. Thank you to all of the chaperones who helped make it a fun, educational, and successful field trip!

FULTON SCIENCE ACADEMY HILLCREST ORCHARDS FIELD TRIP

Students in grades 1-3 enjoyed a beautiful day at the apple orchards in Ellijay, Georgia, on Wednesday, October 26. Students took a long (but very exciting) bus ride to North Georgia to visit Hillcrest Orchards! Participants were very lucky to have some wonderful fall weather to enjoy the outdoors for the day. 

On the trip, students were able to see what farm life is all about. Classes rotated through the different stations and experienced a variety of activities. Each student enjoyed a yummy cup of fresh apple cider, learned about how to feed cows, practiced taking kernels off ears of corn for the cows to eat, practiced and ACTUALLY milked a real cow named "Buttercup," learned about cows and bulls, visited an apple museum, and learned about how apples should be picked the correct way.

Soon after, students enjoyed a wagon ride through a nature trail, came face to face with farm animals in a petting zoo, ate a picnic lunch, zoomed down an extra fun slide, and last (but certainly not least) enjoyed some fun and FAST pig races to end our adventure!

Fulton Science Academy End of Year Field Trip to New York

Fulton Science Academy Private School is planning an end of year trip to New York, April 27-30, 2017. This trip, which is applicable to students in grades 6-10, has limited space and registrations will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Application forms were sent home with students; duplicate copies can be obtained at the front desk. Some of the locations planned for the trip include: the Brooklyn Bridge Walk, Rockefeller Center, Cruise Tour/Statue of Liberty, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Times Square, Battery Park, The National Museum of Mathematics, Intrepid Air and Space Museum, Ellis Island, Central Park and the Top of the Rock Observation Deck.

To register, please complete the application form sent home with students and return it with your non-refundandable deposit no later than Wednesday, October 5. Thank you.

END OF YEAR DISNEY TRIP

What could be better than spending a few days chillin' in the sun with friends and teachers? Doing it at Disney!

44 5th thru 8th grade students headed down to Orlando early Friday morning for an action packed long weekend. They explored the Magic Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom.

The fourth and fifth grade classes had fun traveling back in time to the Colonial Era during our field trip this week! The students visited Stone Mountain's colonial exhibits, where they learned all about local history.

Students visited several colonial-era buildings and heard a presentation at each station. Students learned about Georgia's state history, about what animals were farmed here and how they were used, how to turn cotton or wool into thread/yarn and then blankets and clothing, and what tools were used in a Colonial kitchen. The students also learned all about trade routes, exploration, and which crops are native to the Americas and other continents.

Finally, students visited the gift shop and enjoyed lunch outside in a lovely wooded pavilion. After lunch, they ran and played, enjoying the sunshine before heading back to school.

ATTEND SCHOOL IN COSTA RICA - DECEMBER 12-19, 2016

MIDDLE GRADES STEAM WORKSHOPS AT THE HIGH MUSEUM

On the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of March, FSAPS middle school students had the opportunity to attend a special STEAM program at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art. Each grade travelled to the museum separately to take part in the program, in which they learned how the “A”, or “Art” in STEAM was an integral part of their curriculum and how other academic disciplines are used in the creation of art.

During the program, students were led on a tour of several exhibits from African art to contemporary art and all things in between. In doing so, they were given hands-on experience with the materials used to create artworks throughout history, from the dark and vivid hues of early Italian artists that used egg tempura paint through the modern oils and acrylics of today.

There were several special exhibitions on display during the visit. These included works by Vik Muniz, widely thought of as one of the most innovative artists of the 21st century, as well as the impossible-looking dresses of Iris van Herpen which take their inspiration from nature, technology, and even philosophy to create unique costumes.

Students also participated in a workshop where they were tasked with using all of their STEAM skills to design objects which are both practical and aesthetically pleasing in order to solve real issues facing the world. Examples of issues to look at included water filtration, traffic control, animal shelters, and keeping birds from office windows.

Following the exhibits and workshop, students enjoyed lunch on the lawn outside the museum before returning to school with a new appreciation for the role science, technology, engineering, and math play in the creation of art of all kinds and how art can influence those disciplines as well.

ALLIANCE THEATRE FIELD TRIP WAS LOTS OF FUN!

FSAPS Elementary students visited the Alliance Theatre this past Thursday, February 25th. They were transported through theatre to the magical land of Narnia while watching the play The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe! This play is based on the books The Chronicles of Narnia and tells a story of 4 siblings that travel through their wardrobe into a new land. Students loved watching the actors in this land of Narnia as they encountered new creatures, and faced many adventures. In the land of Narnia, we watched as The White Witch attempted to take control of the entire land. The strong and magical lion, Aslan, helped the siblings defeat the white witch and rule the land of Narnia where all the creatures were happy! The stage props, lighting, and being able to sit in the balcony of the theatre made this experience extra special for our elementary students! After the show, we enjoyed a quick snack and juice before heading back to school. The students loved talking about their favorite parts of the play on their way back to school. It was a great day for our elementary students!

¡EN EL RESTAURANTE!

7th and 8th graders enjoyed their time at "El Porton" Mexican restaurant. They used their communication skills in the language to order in Spanish and of course have fun with their classmates outside of school.

SOUTHERN MUSEUM OF CIVIL WAR AND LOCOMOTIVE HISTORY

Our museum visit was a wonderful learning experience. We learned all about the importance of locomotives during the Civil War.

The students were separated into groups and then each group experienced all of the activities the museum had to offer along the way.

In addition to viewing and learning about the exhibits, the kids went on a scavenger hunt, watched a movie, looked at Civil War Era games, saw a movie about the Great Locomotive Chase, saw a Civil War soldier "gun shooting" demonstration, and shopped in the museum gift shop.

The famous steam locomotive, General was a sight to see. The students learned all about the heroic adventure that James Andrews and William Fuller experienced with the Great Locomotive Chase.

There was also a US Army soldier there, dressed to impress and share his military life and tell what it takes to shoot his rifle.

The weather couldn’t have been better. We were able to enjoy our lunch outside and run around a bit as well.
