FULTON SCIENCE ACADEMY HOSTS INAUGURAL SCIENCE OLYMPIAD INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT

On Saturday, November 12, FSA hosted 24 teams from twelve schools in our Inaugural Science Olympiad Invitational.

“For a first tournament and this early in the season, it was very competitive. We had many of the top teams in the southeast, including Auburn Middle School from Alabama and Bearden Middle School and Friendship Christian Academy from Tennessee, not to mention our perennial rival Dodgen Middle School from Marietta,” said tournament director and FSA head coach, Pam Walsh.

“This was not a team competition,” explained Walsh. “It was an opportunity for students and coaches to measure their progress against each other. Normally Science Olympiad has very strict rules about team make-up, but we did not apply those rules in this tournament in order to give teams more flexibility.”

FSA students did remarkably well, placing in fourteen of the twenty events. Ribbons were awarded to the following FSA students:

Dynamic Planet – coached by Mrs. Walsh- 1st place – Arul and Sanjeev, 3rd place – Sophie and Sid
Ecology – coached by Mrs. Butler- 5th place – Arham and Nicholas
Experimental Design – coached by Mrs. Stathos- 2nd place – Sophie, Navina, and Sid
