GLOBAL AWARENESS ASSEMBLY

On Thursday, April 28, FSA's fourth through eighth grade students had the honor of hosting Peace Corps. volunteer G. Morgan Timmis, who talked about her time working at an elementary school in Botswana. Ms. Timmis talked about how she decided to join the Peace Corps, flying to Botswana, and meeting her initial host family. She and the other volunteers spent several weeks of rigorous training, including three hours daily of studying the local language! Once training was completed, Ms. Timmis moved into her designated living area, a small village called Hatsalatladi, with a population of approximately 1,00-1,500 residents (plus many cows, goats, donkeys, and chickens)!

Ms. Timmis works as a school counselor at Hatsalatladi Primary School, where she helps students learn about and make appropriate and healthy life-choice decisions. Her personal goal is to build and stock a library for the school, and she has been reaching out to different organizations in an effort to make that happen. FSAPS will be partnering with Hatsalatladi Primary School, so that our wonderful students and families will be able to help their students, such as by donating much-needed school supplies and resources.

Thank you Ms. Timmis for your wonderful presentation, and for sharing your experience with us!
