8th Grader, Caroline Wittschen Selected to All-State Orchestra

Fulton Science Academy Private School eighth grade student, Caroline Wittschen, was selected from among several thousand violinists in Georgia to attend Georgia Music Educator Association’s 2013 All-State Orchestra program.  Caroline attended initial auditions in October, during which several thousand middle school violinists tried out in various locations around Georgia.  Cuts were then made to create a pool of the top 200 violinists.  Final auditions for these students were held last Saturday at the Westminster School in Atlanta and Caroline was selected as one of the top 44 middle school violinists in the state.  She will travel to Savannah, GA with several hundred middle- school and high school students Feb 28- March 2 to participate in the GMEA All-State program.

GMEA organizes and carries out the All-State performance program in order to give all selected students an opportunity to work with other students of equal caliber under the direction of highly qualified conductors.  Each student auditions on a statewide basis and is selected on merit when judged by professionals against all other applicants across the state.  Selection to All-State is recognition of excellence in musical knowledge, technique and interpretation.

Caroline began playing violin in the fourth grade in her elementary school orchestra class.  She has been studying violin for four years with Mimi Tam who performs with  the Atlanta Opera and Atlanta Ballet Orchestras.
