FSA Students Enjoyed Earth Balloon

The earth balloon was at FSA during STEM day. Students  had a chance to get inside the balloon as well. A big thank you goes to FSA PVO parents, Mrs. Doraiswami and Mrs. Howard for organizing this wonderful event for our students.

What is Earth Baloon?

The Earth Balloon is intended to make the Educational Programs of Keep Roswell Beautiful much more effective. Students enter the 22' (6.7m) diameter Earth Balloon through an entrance in the Pacific Ocean to learn about rain forests, the ring of fire, time zones, population clusters, migration, man's impact on the earth, and endless other topics. 

Elementary Science Olympiad Lock-In was Fun

Students competing in the Elementary Science Olympiad competition on May 17th stayed overnight at school this past Friday to prepare! Our goal for the evening was to practice... practice.... practice to get ready for the state competition. Our evening started with some delicious snacks to get our brains working. After snacks, we jumped right into practicing for the big competition. Students rotated between study groups with their coaches, study buddy groups with their event partner, and study sessions in the computer lab. Science Olympiad coaches were SO impressed with how hard students were working and how dedicated they were to practicing for their events. Around 7:30, students took a break to enjoy pizza, ice cream, and some time outside to 'cool down' from their study sessions. After some fun time outside all together, students got comfortable in their pajamas and we continued with our study sessions until almost 10pm! After a half hour of getting out our energy in the gym... the girls enjoyed a movie in Ms.Przedpelski's classroom before eventually falling asleep, and the boys enjoyed a movie in Ms. Fichter's classroom before they fell asleep. On Saturday morning, Mrs. Stathos came bright and early with a delicious breakfast, and parents came to retrieve their Science Olympiad competitors! Overall, the students and coaches had a great time preparing for the competition and enjoying some team bonding time as a group.

2nd Place in 2014 National Spanish Poster Contest

We are pleased to inform that after winning 1st place at the state level, Brian Shoffeitt's poster competed at the national level and won 2nd place in 2014 National Spanish Poster Contest organized by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

Congratulations to Brian, his parents, and FSA Spanish and Art teachers Mrs. Adkins and Mrs. Millar for this wonderful achievement.

CONGRATULATIONS TO 8th GRADER ARANEESH PRATAP FOR HIS QUALIFICATION TO NATIONAL HISTORY BEE

The Regional History Bee was held on April 29 at River Trail Middle School. There were 130 competitors in all from the Atlanta Region. Chloe Richardson, Sanjeev Uppaluri, Brian Shoffeitt & Araneesh Pratap represented our school. Students went through 3 rounds, each with 30 questions. The top scorers move on to compete in the National History Bee Competition. Questions were quite complex and difficult, and covered a range of topics from World History to US History and from Ancient to Modern Times. 8th grader, Araneesh Pratap qualified to compete in the National History Bee to be held June 6-8 in downtown Atlanta. Congratulations to Aranneesh, his parents and FSA teachers for this great result! Good luck at the National competition. 

ELEMENTARY STUDENTS VISITED CNN CENTER

FSA's 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders enjoyed a day full of excitement in downtown Atlanta on Friday, April 18th. Despite the rainy weather, our students were able to learn all about the incredible process of making the news, and were even able to watch a live broadcast! After the tour, we walked over to enjoy a ride on Skyview Atlanta. Many students (and teachers) conquered their fear of heights and were able to spot many important landmarks of Atlanta! What a fun day full of memories!

What a Year for Fulton Science Academy Math Team!

After winning first place as a team in five different math competitions this year, FSA Math Olympiad Team students competed in Cheetah Cup Math Competition at Creek View Elementary School on Saturday, April 26th and once again won 1st place as a team. This is 6th firs place trophy Math Olympiad student brought back to school this year.

Beside many individual achievements in math competitions this year, the Fulton Science Academy Private School Math Olympiad Team students have won the following first place awards as a team:

• 1st Place in 2014 Cheetah Cup (6th Grade)
  
• 1st Place in 2014 Math League (8th Grade)
  
• 1st Place in 2014 Dunwoody High School Math Tournament
  
• 1st Place in 2013 Luella High School Math Competition
  
• 1st Place in 2013 War Eagle Math Competition (Accelerated Division)
  
• 1st Place in 2013 Rockdale Math Competition. 
  

Additionally, in the individual category, two FSA 6th grade students Charlie Furniss and Christina Wang tied for first place and competed against each other in the tie breaker round. 

We are very proud of FSA Math Olympiad Students and their achievements this year. Congratulations to these students, their parents and our wonderful math teachers Mr. Seker and Mr. Tuzen for the great results.

FSA Students Won Both 1st and 2nd Places in 2014 State Spanish Poster Contest

Elementary Science Olympiad Team Qualified to Compete in 2014 State Science Olympiad

Congratulations to Fulton Science Academy's Elementary Science Olympiad team who took 4th place overall at the Forsyth County Qualifier event! Placing at this event allows the team to move on to the state competition May 17th at Kennesaw State University!

What is DUKE TIP?

Duke TIP's 7th Grade Talent Search is the largest program of its kind in the nation. Since its inception in 1980, over 2 million students have participated. The 7th Grade Talent Search identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. Participants gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students.

Great Results in 2014 State Technology Fair

On Saturday, March 8, FSAPS Technology team students traveled to Macon, Georgia to compete at the State Technology Fair. At this year’s State Technology Fair 740+ first place winners from 17 different recognized regional technology fairs across the state competed at Macon State College in over 16 different categories. Turkish Olympiad Team Won Best Three Placements

On Saturday, April 26, 2014, FSA Turkish class students competed in 2014 Southeast Turkish Olympiad Competition In Jacksonville, Florida. Once again, our students have done a great job.  Among many other very competitive schools, our Turkish Olympiad Team students won best three placement individually in the category of speaking.

ANIME CLUB LOCK-IN WAS A NIGHT TO BE REMEMBERED!

This past Friday night FSAPS Anime Club had a Lock-In as an opportunity for students to collaborate with others who are fans of the Anime art form and interested in both traditional and pop Japanese culture.  The Lock-In began at 4:30 pm with attendees perusing a menu to order Hibachi dinners and contribute thoughts on our sushi selections.  Students then enjoyed a hands-on lesson sushi lesson, began their Japanese bookbinding journal project, and enjoyed a delicious dinner.  We may have watched a little Anime as well J  The almost all night long event (students took a break in the wee hours of the morning to grab a quick nap) concluded with a breakfast of eggs, fruit, doughnut holes, and Ramen noodles (yes, Ramen).  Delicious breakfast but the catch is- you had to use chopsticks!

A big thank you to Mr. Tuzen, Mrs. Stathos, Stephanie Stathos, and Mrs. Unal for helping this event run so smoothly.  Also, thanks to Chef Schneider for the engaging sushi lesson.  We learned so much!

FSA 8th GRADE STUDENTS WON 1ST PLACE IN 2014 MATH LEAGUE

On Tuesday, February 25, 2014, FSA Private Middle School Math Team participated in 2014 Math League competition. We have just received the results and once again our Math Olympiad Team students have done a great job. 

Among 49 other very competitive schools, our Math Olympiad Team won following awards:

1st Place as a Team in 8th Grade Category

5th Place as a Team in 7th Grade Category

6th Place as a Team in 6th Grade Category

Additionally,

7th Grader, Mira Mutnick won 2nd Place among all 7th Graders in State

6th Grader, Charlie Furniss won 4th Place among all 6th Graders in State

8th Graders, Aditya Choudhari,Jean Moorman, and Araneesh Pratap shared 6th place in State

The Math League was formed in 1977 by award-winning math teachers Steven R. Conrad and Daniel Flegler, two math teachers from Long Island and New Jersey, respectively. Their mission is to build “student interest and confidence in mathematics through solving worthwhile problems.”
