National Spanish Language Poster Competition

FSA students prepared posters for the National Spanish Poster Competition based on the quote "Aprender idiomas es disfrutar ottos mundos." Maria Hagen, Caroline Wittschen and Jonathan Lu got selected to participate at the state level and hopefully national level too. Good Work!  

 

 

Model United Nations Team Students Won Distinguished Delegate Awards

This past Thursday, Fulton Science Academy Private School Model United Nations Team students traveled to Savannah, Georgia and competed at the State Model United Nations Tournament. Once again, our students have done a wonderful job and won following awards:

Technology Fair State Champions

This past Saturday, FSA Technology team students traveled to Macon, Georgia to compete at the State Technology Fair. 500+ first place winners from 16 different recognized regional technology fairs across the state competed at Macon State College in over 13 different categories.

Our students have done a wonderful job and received following awards:

2013 State Tax Credit Program

YOU CAN NOW APPLY FOR 2013 STATE TAX CREDIT PROGRAM!!!

This tax credit was passed into law in July, 2008. Fulton Science Academy Private School is excited about the law as it has financial benefits both for you and the school. The state has set aside $50 million in available credits each year, distributed on a first come first served basis.  Under the new law, you can redirect a portion of your Georgia income tax liability to provide financial aid scholarships to incoming Fulton Science Academy Private School students. You will receive a tax credit on your state income taxes and a charitable deduction on your federal incomes taxes for the amount of your contribution. 

How does it work? We have partnered with the Apogee Scholarship Fund (ASF), a state approved Student Scholarship Organization (SSO), to enable Fulton Science Academy to take advantage of this program. With a contribution to ASF, a Georgia state income tax credit is available to you for the tax year. Your contribution can be used as a charitable deduction on your Federal tax return.

Students Celebrated Dr. Seuss's Birthday with Fun Learning Activities

FSA STUDENTS CELEBRATED DR. SEUSS'S BIRTHDAY 

WITH FUN LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Elementary students had a blast this past Friday during the Dr.  Seuss’ Birthday Celebration!  The fun began as they entered the school to meet Thing 1 (Mrs. Adams) and Thing 2 (Mrs. Fichter) ready to outfit them with “Cat In The Hat” headbands a set painted set of whiskers and black nose.  After lunch and recess, students met in the Reading Room to be given giant red and white empty goodie bags and instructions for their afternoon journey through wonderfully wacky world of Dr. Seuss’ most famous stories. 

Students rotated through all the elementary classrooms, collecting Dr. Seuss themed prizes to put in their goodie bags, hearing a story, and then completing activities based on the book they just heard.  Science connections were everywhere!  From hearing  Green Eggs  and then cooking their own to reading Bartholomew and the Oobleck and then using Elmer’s glue, Borax, food coloring, and water to concoct their own gooey oobleck, Dr. Suess stories served as inspiration to some great changes of matter experimentation. 

The Foot Book helped with some basic math concept reinforcement for all grade levels.  From measuring with  non-standard units (your foot!) to tallying the frequency of the words foot and feet in the story, math is definitely more fun with Dr. Seuss. 

And, of course, few teachers could resist the temptation to use Dr. Seuss’ imaginative illustrations as inspiration for some very creative art projects.  Fox In Socks, The Cat In The Hat, and The Lorax all inspired some wonderful pieces now on display in the Reading Room!

The day ended in the cafeteria with some tasty Truffula Tree cupcakes and a re-cap of the day’s activities.  What did the students want more of when the day was done?  They begged to hear more Dr. Seuss stories!!!

Elementary Grades Enjoy Art Classes

Last week, Ms. Fichter started this lesson by looking at some famous paintings done in pointillism  style and discussing with the students how the dots of color blend when seen from a distance. The students were fascinated when they were shown pictures of this style of painting and then a close up so that they could see the tiny dots of color. This week, Mrs. Teeling explained that the paintings that they saw last week were done by artists that had practiced to be able to do this technique so well. She explained that like riding a bicycle...you have to learn how to balance and steer without falling over before you  could ever attempt to do tricks.

In the paintings the students made, they simplified their landscapes down to very few elements: clouds, sky, trees and grass. This week, they worked on the sky, next week they will finish off the clouds and begin the grass.  The last thing they will add is the trees. 

Working in stages and learning the technique will help make everyone successful.  Several students held up their paintings to be seen by students further away and they were amazed at how different the paintings looked. "Here, hold up my painting for me...I want to see what it looks like from over there." Then, "Wow, how cool...it looks really good." 

Mrs Teeling said, "Other students shared high fives and were saying such wonderful things about each others work. And they are not even complete yet.  We will have to put them all on display before we send them home." Great Job First and Second Graders!  

Seeds are just the beginning... Elementary Art Club learned that Wednesday when they began a new project using seeds. They have been studying seeds and plants in science but in the art room we used them for a different purpose. The students began by learning that they would be working with recycled cardboard from around the school.Next they placed a seed of their choice in the center and began to create a circular pattern. Next week they will be gluing a backing piece of material and a cord to wear to display their wearable art around their neck.

Life Science Class Daffodils Dissection Activity

Students in seventh grade life science dissected daffodils on Thursday, February 28^th as part of our Plant unit. Students were required to dissect each flower part and label it by name and discuss its function. Not only did students learn the parts of a flower but their worksheets were truly a work of art!

FULTON SCIENCE ACADEMY PRIVATE SCHOOL

S.T.E.A.M. Camp for Gifted Students

FSA S.T.E.A.M. Camp provides fun hands-on activities in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics to develop new skills, expand creative thinking, and foster team building and new friendships.

FSA STEAM Camp is taught by an award winning staff, occurs in an easy one-week day camp format, and is designed to be both fun and full of learning!

Activities include Math Games, Hands-On Science Activities, Multi-Media Art Projects,

Robotics, Computer Programming, and 3D Animation.

Campers are divided into three levels to better tailor activities, instruction,

supervision, and content for a more engaging and fun experience!

Level One: Grades K-2
Level Two: Grades 3-5

Level Three: Grades 6-8

FSA S.T.E.A.M. Camp for the Academically Gifted

is open to all Georgia gifted students in Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Monday, July 8 through Friday, July 12, 2013  from 8:00am to 4:30pm

Cost: $250 per camper

This amount includes all materials, instruction, lunch, and snacks.
