Fulton Science Academy Private School is pleased to announce MATHGENIUSES,

 a challenging Math Competition for elementary and middle school students.

  

WHO CAN ATTEND?

 The competition is open to kindergarten through 8th grade students that want

to test their math skills against some of Georgia's best math students.

  

WHEN?

Saturday, March 23rd, 2013

 from 11:00am to 1:00pm

WHAT IS THE ENTRANCE FEE?

There is a $5 entrance fee per student. This fee includes lunch during the event.

The entrance fee will be paid during the day day of the event.

  

WHAT IS THE COMPETITION FORMAT?

Students will be given one hour to solve advanced level math problems.

  

 There are three competition levels:

 1st Level - Kindergarten through 3rd Grade

 2nd Level - 4th & 5th Grades

3rd Level - 6th through 8th Grades

  

WHAT WILL THE WINNERS RECEIVE?

 In addition to recognition and bragging rights, winners will receive the following AWARDS:

Sons of American Revolution Presentation at Fulton Science Academy

Our middle school students enjoyed a visit from the Sons of American Revolution. Their goal is to spread knowledge of the way of life during the revolution. The students were shown artifacts of the primitive ways during that time and learned how life has changed from then until now.

LEARNED ABOUT STORMWATER 

USING A STORMWATER FLOODPLAIN SIMULATION SYSTEM

Terry Porter, environmental educator for the City of Alpharetta, visited 6^th and 7^th grade science classes on Thursday bringing a new Stormwater Floodplain Simulation System that the city recently acquired. In fact, Fulton Science Academy Private School is only the second school in North Fulton to use this simulation system model.

This hands-on, simulation model clearly demonstrates the critical role of floodplains and how development within the watershed can impact stormwater runoff and flooding within the watershed and floodplain areas.

Students performed a variety of realistic experiments involving floodwaters and the damages that may follow.

Fulton Science Academy Won 2nd Place at Regional Science Olympiad

In its first year as a private school, Fulton Science Academy’s Science Olympiad Team placed second at the Regional Tournament held at the University of North Georgia in Oakwood on Saturday, February 9. The team will now advance to the State Tournament to be held March 16 at Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta. 

Head Coaches Pam Walsh and Gloria Stathos expected tough competition at the tournament and were pleased with the team’s performance. “We placed in the top ten in 23 out of 24 events,” said Mrs. Walsh.  “In addition, our B team, composed of less-experienced Science Olympiad students, placed 7^th of the 24 teams, beating teams from Trickum, Chamblee, and Dickerson middle schools. The B team’s success is a good indicator of our future potential,” she explained.
